How did it all begin? In the mid-1990s, our founder Bill Whyte, a carpenter with hands that suffered in the harsh New England winters, created a soothing herbal balm using beeswax and olive oil. This simple solution led to the birth of Badger, a brand that has become a favorite among customers.

According to Outside Magazine, our lab-tested insect-repellent balm has gained a cult following. It is deet-free, smells great, and is certified organic with ingredients like caster oil, citronella, rosemary, and lemongrass.

Is it safe to apply our Bug Balm to clothes, hats, or lawn chairs? While the insect-repelling essential oils are fine, the balm base of organic olive oil and beeswax may stain certain fabrics. Our products are formulated to repel mosquitoes and stable flies, but may also work against other biting insects.
